Review - Treasure Me by Chrsitine Nolfi

Title and Author: Treasure Me by Christine Nolfi

Publisher: Kindle Editions
Publication Date: April 221st, 2011
Paperback/Hardcover:
Genre: Contemporary Romance

Summary
Petty thief Birdie Kaminsky has arrived in Liberty, Ohio to steal a treasure hidden since the Civil War. She’s in possession of a charming clue passed down in her family for generations: Liberty safeguards the cherished heart.

The beautiful thief wants to go straight. She secretly admires the clue’s author, freedwoman Justice Postell, who rose above the horrors of slavery to build a new life in Ohio. According to family lore, Justice left South Carolina at the dawn of the Civil War. Heavy with child, she carried untold riches on her journey north. As Birdie searches for the treasure, she begins to believe a questionable part of the story: a tale of love between Justice and Lucas Postell, the French plantation owner who was Birdie’s ancestor.

If the stories are true, Justice bore a child with Lucas. Some of those black relatives might still live in town. Birdie can’t help but wonder if she’s found one—Liberty’s feisty matriarch, Theodora Hendricks, who packs a pistol and heartwarming stories about Justice. Birdie doesn’t know that an investigative reporter who has arrived in town will trip her up—as will her conscience when she begins to wonder if it’s possible to start a new life with stolen riches. Yet with each new clue she unearths, Birdie begins to discover a family history more precious than gems, a tradition of love richer than she could imagine.

Review:
Treasure Me is a book with an interesting premise that didn’t disappoint me. It took me a little while to get into the story but once I did, I really enjoyed it.
Birdie is a thief with a complicated past. She was raised by thieves and that life is all she knows and no matter how hard she tries she can’t seem to turn her life around. At least not until she moves to Liberty in search of a hidden treasure.
Hugh is a journalist that moves to Liberty so he can write a story and save his job.
Sparks immediately fly between Birdie and Hugh, especially when they are forced to share an apartment. While Hugh chases after a story, Birdie hunts for her treasure.
Both Birdie and Hugh are too complex characters. They are both stubborn and hard-hearted. Their lives are complicated and so are their feelings. In a way, they are perfect for each other and the attraction between them is more than obvious.
There are also several secondary characters who play important parts on the story.
I really liked the fact that Christine Nolfi created an interesting puzzle that’s not easy to put together. It kept me interested in the story.
I also liked the fact the author is very descriptive. She’s able to make you feel like you are part of the story.
All in all, this is an interesting book with a good plot and a hard to solve mystery. If you like this kind of story you should definitely give this book a try.

Rating: Worth Your Time (4 Stars)

I have received this book from Christine in exchange of an honest review. Thank you.

Teaser Tuesday

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:

  • Grab your current read
  • Open to a random page
  • Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
  • BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
  • Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!
This week I am reading:

Strong and Sexy by Jill Shalvis

"She’d promised herself she’d do this. No running, no avoiding, just face it head-on and get it done. But as Dani Peterson bent for her broken-offheel, she felt her resolve slip.Running like hell would have been so much easier.Damn it.All she’d asked of herself was to get through this with a shred of dignity, but that would be a little tough now, wouldn’t it, while minus a heel."

“So... you believe me,” she said, shocked to find her throat tight over that. “You believe that something is going on here.”
“Something, yes.”
“Okay.” She concentrated on breathing. Breathing was good. “Okay, now I’m really scared.”
“You should be. Enemies, Dani? Pissed-off family members? Scorned boyfriends? Jealous coworkers?”
What are you reading this week?

Top Ten Villains

Are you ready to find out who the top villains out there are?

According to the votes received your favorite dynamic duos are:
(Click on the image to be taken to goodreads)

10 - The White Witch from The Chronicles of Narnia by C. S. Lewis

"Jadis was the last Queen of Charn and the most infamous Queen of Narnia. Originally from the World of Charn, she was accidentally brought to the World of Narnia, and although banished to the North by the great lion Aslan, she returned 900 Narnian-years later when she usurped power from the royal family of Narnia. As a curse upon her Narnian subjects, she began the Long Winter, thus earning her the title, the "White Witch" She magically forced Narnia into a hundred-year state of frozen snow and ice during her reign"

9 - Count Dracula from Dracula by Bram Stoker

"Count Dracula  is a centuries-old vampire who claims to be a Székely descended from Attila the Hun. He inhabits a decaying castle in the Carpathian Mountains. Dracula exudes a veneer of aristocratic charm which masks his unfathomable evil.
Details of his early life are obscure, but it seems that Dracula studied the black arts and became proficient in alchemy and magic.
Dead and buried in a great tomb in the chapel of his castle, Dracula returns from death as a vampire and lives for several centuries in his castle."

8 - The Capitol from The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins

"The Capitol is where the wealthy and powerful people of the nation reside. Not only are the Games controlled from this point, but so are the districts. The Capitol is a dictatorship that seems to be run by President Snow. It is also the only mentioned major city.  It is known for its lamb stew and hot chocolate. The Rockies also acted as a natural barrier and was useful to the Capitol because they could aim their bombs at the rebels on the mountains and kill them."

7 - The Volturi from Twilight by Stephenie Meyer

"The Volturi act as the unofficial royalty of the vampire world, and operate from the city of Volterra. They have existed for at least 3000 years, and are the largest coven in existence. However, they do not follow a vegetarian diet. The Volturi deal swiftly and decisively with anything they consider a threat to their city or to the vampire world; for example, they protect vampires' existence in secret. They destroy anyone who attempts to overthrow them or resist their authority."

6 - Draco Malfoy from Harry Potter by J. K. Rowling

"Draco Lucius Malfoy was a pure-blood wizard and the only son of Lucius and Narcissa Malfoy. The son of a Death Eater, Draco was raised to believe strongly in the importance of blood purity."

5 - Bellatrix from Harry Potter by J. K Rowling

"Bellatrix Lestrange was a pure-blood witch, the daughter of Cygnus and Druella Black and elder sister to Andromeda and Narcissa. She attended Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in 1962 and was sorted into Slytherin house. After graduating from Hogwarts, she became a Death Eater who was fanatically loyal to Lord Voldemort."

4 - Sauron from The Lord of The Rings by J. R. R. Tolkien

"Sauron was the Dark Lord Morgoth's abominable lieutenant during the First Age. He was also the creator of the One Ring and the Dark Lord of Mordor, whom the Fellowship of the Ring sought to defeat. His name was formerly Thauron, and came from the elvish word "thaur" meaning "abominable" or "abhorrent"."

3 - President Snow from The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins

"President Snow is responsible for taking care of the country and working on the Hunger Games year after year. He is not afraid to hurt or kill people if he feels that they will be a threat or a sign of rebellion."

2 - Valentine from The Mortal Instruments Series by Cassandra Clare

"Fifteen years ago, Valentine led a band of rebel Shadowhunters against an army of Downworlders and nearly destroyed everything it had taken the Nephilim a thousand years to build. When his army was defeated, he slaughtered his family and took his own life — or did he?"

1 - Voldemort from Harry Potter by J. K. Rowling

"Tom Marvolo Riddle was the most powerful Dark Wizard of all time.

Having embraced the Dark Arts he encountered in his travels, the former Tom Riddle, now known exclusively as Lord Voldemort, raised an enormous army comprised of followers he recruited both at school and afterwards, as well as many dark creatures. This army, known as the Death Eaters began a campaign of terror and violence never before seen in Britain."

So, what do you think? Is your favorite villain on the list?

Top Ten Dynamic Duos/BFFs

Hello Hello! How are you all?
Last week you let me know which are your favorite dynamic duos. Are you curious to see the list?

According to the votes received your favorite dynamic duos are:
(Click on the image to be taken to goodreads)

10 - Ron and Hermione from Harry Potter by J. K. Rowling

Whether you like them as a couple or not, you'll at least have to admit that Ron and Hermione make a great duo.
Harry would have never been able to succeed without their help.
They fight (a lot) but we know they can't stay mad with each other for too long.
Ron and Hermione are definitely a great duo!

9 - Clary and Jace from The Mortal Instruments Series by Cassandra Clare

Clary and Jace are definitely an interesting duo. As a couple theire relationship is a complicated one. We all know they are in love but they can never seem to be together and happy for too long.
They do work well together, though. They have faced many dangerous situatuons and have always managed to survive!
Clary and Jace do make a nice dynamic duo, don't you think?

8 - Anna and Etiénne from Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins

Anna and Etiénne started off as friends, which I love. The banter between them is incredible, sweet and funny.
Together Anna and Etiénne walked the streets of Paris and slowly feel in love.
I really do like them as a couple as well as friends so I think they definitely deserve their place on this list.

7 - Fred and George from Harry Potter by J. K. Rowling

Who doesn't love the twins? They are immensely entertaining and funny and we all know that when they are around something interesting is bound to happen.
Fred and George are two of the greatest pranksters around and that alone is reason enough to make them a very dynamic duo, isn't it?

6 - Katniss and Peeta from The Hunger Games Series by Suzanne Collins

I completely understand why Katniss and Peeta are on this list. They managed to survive the games together, after all! That alone is definitely enough to justify their presence on this list, isn't it?

5 - Will and Jem from the Infernal Devices Series by Cassandra Clare

I'm glad Will and Jem are on this list. They are friends and partners.
Jem is really the only person Will seems to be able to honestly talk to and trust. A girl has, in a way, came between them but I don't think that will be enough to end their friendship.
I can't wait to find out what will happen in Clockwork Prince!

4 - Frodo and Sam from The Lord of The Rings by J, R. R. Tolkien

I think Frodo and Sam should definitely be on this list, don't you agree? Thay made an incredible journey together, after all! Sam did a great job protecting and helping Frodo and together they managed to reach Mordor.
These two brave little friends are definitely a dynamic duo.

3 - Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson from Sherlock Holmes by Arthur Conan Doyle

This is one of my favorite dynamic duos out there! I believe the amazing Sherlock Holmes wouldn't be who he is without Dr. Watson.
For adventure and mystery fans like me, these two are amazing together! The way they end up solving the most complicated cases is great and able to keep you entertained!

Also, if you haven't watched BBC's Tv Series Sherlock (2010) you should definitely do it! It's simply amazing.

2 - Harry and Ron and Hermione from Harry Potter by J. K. Rowling

Yes, I know, this is a trio not a duo but do I even need to explain why Harry, Ron and Hermione are on this list?
If you read Harry Potter you know these three manage to complete each other and definitely deserve their place on this list.

1 - Rose and Lissa from the Vampire Academy Series by Richelle Mead

I can't say much about Rose and Lissa because I haven't read this book yet but I imagine they are good friends who manage to get into some trouble and find their way out of it. Am I right?
I'll definitely have to read this book soon.

So, what do you think of the list? Do you agree with it? Is your favorite duo featured?

Blog Hop (25) & Follow Friday (25)

Book Blogger Hop
The Book Blogger Hop is a meme sponsored by Jennifer at Crazy For Books.

This week's question is:

"What keeps you reading beyond the first few pages of a book, and what makes you want to stop reading a book and put it back on the shelf?"
Well, I normally finish every book I start reading but an inriguing plot with interesting characters will definitely keep me happy. Bad writing and characters with no real emotions will make me want to out the book down.

HI! Welcome to my blog! I am participating in Follow Friday hosted by Parajunkee's View.
Hop on please leave comment, link your blog, and follow, and I will follow you as well.

This week's question is:

"Your favorite book/movie character (example Hermione Granger played by the Emma chick) just walked into the room! Who is it and what would be your first reaction? You get extra points if you include visual stimulation."
This is a hard question! I have read too many books that were later made into movies...
Let's see... This might sound weird but I think I would love to meet Sherlock Holmes, especially the new one played by Benedict Cumberbatch. He would be so fun to talk to! Of course I would probably have to watch out for eveything I did and said because he would surely be analyzing me!
