2015 Debut Author Challenge

You can sign up for this challenge at That Artsy Reader Girl

Challenge Objectives:
  • To introduce readers to this year’s wonderful group of debut authors.
  • To challenge readers to read 12 or more middle grade, young adult, and new adult debuts this year.
Challenge Rules:
  • You must post your thoughts on each debut book you read in order for it to count towards the challenge. You can post anywhere: your blog, Goodreads, Amazon, YouTube, Tumblr, etc.
  • You can join the challenge whenever you want.
  • The debuts must have a publishing date in 2015 and must have been read between January 1, 2015 and January 31, 2016 (this extra month allows readers adequate time to read December debuts) in order to count.
  • Each review gives you an entry into the monthly prize pack drawings. Make sure you post the links to my monthly link-ups. I always post these link-ups on the first day of the month, without fail.
  • This challenge is open internationally, as are the monthly prize packs.
  • I don’t care what language you write your reviews in, I just need to know which book you have reviewed so I can verify your entry. When you post your link, please include the title in English.
Which Books Count:
  • The book must be classified as a middle grade, young adult, or new adult title.
  • The book must be the author’s MG/YA/NA 2015 debut. (If the author has published adult fiction before, but this is their first MG/YA/NA book EVER it still counts.)
  • Self-published books do not count, so if the author has self-published a MG/YA/NA book before and this is their first book published by a traditional publisher it counts toward the challenge.
  • ARCs are fine, but only if you read them the year they are published. For example, if it’s 2015 but you read and reviewed an ARC of debut coming out in 2016, it does not count for 2015’s challenge (because the challenge is for 2015 debuts) and it will not count for 2016’s challenge (because you must read a 2016 debut in 2016 for it to count). This way participants who do not have access to ARCs are not at a disadvantage.

Book Excerpt - Don't Let Me Fall by Briana Pacheco

Title: Don’t Let Me Fall

Author: Briana Pacheco

Release date: December 4th, 2014

Genre: New Adult

Book Description:
I don't want to be here.
When you lose the one person that was your whole life, you'll understand. For me, it was my best friend, Alice. We spent every second of every day together. We planned a life. I was actually living. I was happy.
Now, it's just gone.
And I'm still here. Lonely. A tatted up body with an empty soul.
Getting inside of my head won't be pretty. I'm warning you now that you won't like me. I hate people besides my family. I hate everything around me. I just want to be alone. And I HATE how Logan Mercer doesn't understand that. He's everywhere; getting inside of my head, kissing me when he shouldn't be, messing everything up, and trying to get me to open up. He's making me crazier than I already am. Why do I need to talk about my life? Why does he even care?
Why doesn't anyone understand that I don't want to get attached to people? I don't want to get fixed.
I want to be alone.
I want to be free.
I want to fly.
My name is Rebeckah Lennox and this is my story...of how I fell.

Book Excerpt

I’m not dateable. I’m not the girl you bring home to meet your parents. I’m not even the girl you leave your animals with. I’m the girl you stay away from because I’m bad news. I’m the girl that gets into trouble. I’m the girl your parents use as an example to stay clear of and find a girl with clean skin, a nice mouth and manners. No one wants to date a bitch. You just fuck them.

About the Author:
Briana Pacheco hates referring to herself in third person so let’s start off with I’m the author of the Enough Trilogy, Don’t Let Me Fall, and many more books to come in the future. I’m from Boston and a wannabe explorer so one day I’ll travel the world. So far, that’s only happening when I write but I’m not giving up just yet. I love coffee, music and books, and I have an obsession with tattoos and accents. Sadly, I have neither so I make my characters have them instead. I’m an avid reader and if I’m not writing, you’ll find me with a book (or Kindle) in my hands. I love hearing from readers about anything so please don’t be shy and stalk me.
I love it!

Guest Post

It’s kind of hard to see but the model on Don’t Let Me Fall’s cover is holding a teddy bear. It has a significant meaning throughout the book involving Rebeckah’s late friend, Alice. Alice gave Rebeckah a teddy bear freshman year of college who was later named, Ally-bear. Rebeckah kept it through the years because it was special. After Alice’s gruesome death, Rebeckah has the bear to hold on to while grieving over the sudden loss. Later on in the book, you’ll find out something happens to the bear, causing Rebeckah to not only lose the only connection to her best friend, but also feeling like she lost Alice all over again. The bear will symbolize many things throughout the book but the most important are friendship, anguish, solitude, and love. All at different times, that is. I wanted something so small and common to mean much more. Some people think of a teddy bear as a bear. Something insignificant that losing it wouldn't matter but to Rebeckah, it's her hold onto her past. The past where she was actually happy and living.

Review - December Rain by A.L. Goulden

Title: December Rain by A.L. Goulden
Publisher:
Publication Date: November 25th, 2014
Paperback/Hardcover:
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Find it at: Goodreads /

Summary:
Monica and Alex Waters have spent that last few months working to repair a broken marriage and rekindle their passion. Just as they start finding their spark, Quinn Matthews and his escalating career resurfaces, but this time Alex makes the decision to let Monica go.
The devastation of losing her high school sweetheart, her home, and even her dog twists Monica down a destructive path that alienates her from her closest friends and lands her on Quinn’s couch. Despite her efforts to resist jumping into his arms again, the spark between them reignites and sweeps her away on a whirlwind holiday adventure. She finds that falling in love with Quinn’s family and lifestyle is as easy as falling for his ocean colored eyes. The problem is that it’s all too easy, and when she sees that Quinn’s reinvented life has completely shifted towards her dreams, she starts to question whether he’s too good to be true.
Quinn has a secret that was never meant to be kept this long, but will Monica be able to trust another man who’s lied? And now that Quinn’s got his happily ever after in sight, he’s not about to let her go or share her with another man.

Review:
I have received this book as part of a blog tour in exchange of an honest review.
First of all, I liked the characters in this book. The men are, of course, all amazing and Monica, despite all her flaws and bad decisions is a really good character. She’s a wreck sometimes but I think that’ understandable given the circumstances she’s faced with.
I think the author did a great job when it comes to describing the characters emotions and making the readers relate to them.
All in all, December Rain is a very well-written book with a steamy and sensual element to it. The plot is interesting and develops at a nice pace.
If you like erotic contemporary romances, I think you might like this one.
