Lauren DeStefano

Brenna from Esther's Ever After was kind enough to write this great post about Lauren DeStefano.

Lauren DeStefano

Lauren DeStefano only has one published book (so far) but she’s quickly wiggled her way into being one of my favourite authors.
Maybe it’s because she’s a talented writer, clearly bursting with new ideas and creativity.
Maybe it’s because she’s so forthright with readers and fans, and is so willing to talk with those who are interested in books and makes herself available to us.
Maybe it’s because Wither was such a delightful book, which continues to haunt me even three months after finishing it.
Or maybe it’s a little bit of all three.
It was Wither’s description that first interested me in reading the book, and I wasn’t disappointed after reading it. I found Rhine to be enchanting, along with the complicated relationships she has with Linden and Gabriel. Nothing is obviously clear in Wither, but instead Lauren DeStefano has struck a careful balance between any sort of extreme; Linden isn’t all bad, and the extent to which areas of his life are merely illusions is murky.
It seems to be increasingly popular for authors to have their own blogs, which is a great way to keep in touch with readers and spread awareness about the book. Lauren’s blog is one of my favourites to creep (err... read) because of the amount and diversity of the content she posts. Everything from pictures of her cats (so cute!), to giveaways (amazing ones too), to book talk, and some of her inspirations for writing (which are incredibly touching stories).  I definitely recommend that you go and read a few posts on her blog, to at least get a feel for it!

Thank you, Brenna! :)

Lauren DeStefano

Today's posts are dedicated to Lauren DeStefano and her books!

Author's Profile:

"Lauren DeStefano was born in New Haven, Connecticut and has never traveled far from the east coast. She received a BA in English from Albertus Magnus College, and has been writing since childhood. She made her authorial debut by writing on the back of children's menus at restaurants and filling up the notepads in her mom's purse. Her very first manuscript was written on a yellow legal pad with red pen, and it was about a haunted shed that ate small children.

Now that she is all grown up (for the most part), she writes fiction for young adults. Her failed career aspirations include: world's worst receptionist, coffee house barista, sympathetic tax collector, and English tutor. When she isn't writing, she's screaming obscenities at her Nintendo DS, freaking her cats out with the laser pen, or rescuing thrift store finds and reconstructing them into killer new outfits."

Running away brings Rhine and Gabriel right into a trap, in the form of a twisted carnival whose ringmistress keeps watch over a menagerie of girls. Just as Rhine uncovers what plans await her, her fortune turns again. With Gabriel at her side, Rhine travels through an environment as grim as the one she left a year ago - surroundings that mirror her own feelings of fear and hopelessness.

The two are determined to get to Manhattan, to relative safety with Rhine’s twin brother, Rowan. But the road there is long and perilous - and in a world where young women only live to age twenty and young men die at twenty-five, time is precious. Worse still, they can’t seem to elude Rhine’s father-in-law, Vaughn, who is determined to bring Rhine back to the mansion...by any means necessary.
