My Book Boyfriend

My Book Boyfriend is a weekly meme, hosted by Missie at The Unread Reader. It is a weekly meme where we talk about a literary crush including stats, a picture of what you imagine he looks like and some quotes from him that make you swoon.  If you are interested in participating please check out the My Book Boyfriend Introduction Page over at Missie's blog The Unread Reader.

This week my book boyfriend is:

Patrick from Fixing Delilah by Sarah Ockler

Stats

Status: Patrick is the guy next door. He's a talented musician and Delilah's love interest and childhood friend.

Age:18

Height:

Eyes: Honey Coloe

Hair: Brown

More info: Patrick loves Catcher in the Rye and helps out with his father's construction business. He has been accepted in college for music. :)

"His braces are gone now and he’s got six inches of height on me. The freckles of childhood have faded into smooth, tan skin, but otherwise, he’s still the same Little Ricky Reese. I mean, Patrick Reese."

"He lifts my chin until our eyes meet and his lips brush over mine, soft at first, dandelion seed blown against my mouth like a wish, and then... completely. Hungry. Suffocating and desperate and I don't want it to stop. I've never been kissed liked this before - not by Finn or the celebrity crushes in my head. Not even in my craziest dreams."

“Don't you ever see the bright side of things?" Patrick asks as I mope against the bottom of the ladder.
"Easy to see the bright side when you're getting paid by the hour."
"Delilah, I will gladly give you my fill wage plus a month's supply of your iced choco-nut whatever lattes if you trade places and clothes with my right now."
"You're not wearing a shirt."
"That's the deal, Hannaford," he says.”

"Doesn't matter how many people are in the crowd anymore, Delilah. Ten or ten thousand, I'm still only singing for one."

Model Arthur Sales

I have to confess I stole Arthur Sales from . He would be a great Patrick!

Review - Tantric Zoo: A Bud Warhol Mystery by Rob Loughran

Title and Author: Tantric Zoo: A Bud Warhol Mystery by Rob Loughran
Publisher:
Publication Date: July 23rd, 2011
Paperback/Hardcover: 2
Genre: Mystery/Suspense

Summary:
Tantric Zoo begins at a tantric sex couples retreat in 1987. Amid the cavorting and indulging and groping and exploring one of the campers ends up dead. The surviving campers bury the body and return to their lives.

Until 2008 when the body is discovered and forensic anthropologist Bud Warhol tracks the campers down. Bud finds the murderer but also discovers how two decades of guilt has altered and affected the lives of everyone involved with the Tantric Zoo.

Review:
Tantric Zoo was sent to me by the author in exchange of an honest review.
The book begins in 1987 at Tantricity Hill, where four different couples at different stages of their lives are. Tantricity Hill is a retreat that focuses on sex therapy run by Altair and Apple. It specializes in trying to make the campers connect to themselves and their significant others.
During the first part of the book we get to meet the campers at Tantricity Hill and their history. Everything seems to be going okay at first but when one of the campers turns up dead after a drug filled orgy in the dark, the remaining campers decide to bury the body.
Twenty one years later when that boy is found we get to know Bud Warhol. He is an anthropologist who works with the police and he’s determined to find out who the body belongs to and why he was killed.
Tantric Zoo is a very interesting and different read.
I liked the fact all the campers have different stories and reasons to be at Tantricity Hill. It was nice getting to know them.
I really liked Bud as well. He was smart and resourceful and was able to find everyone involved in the murder rather quickly. All the campers were involved in the cover up but only one of them was the murdered and it was nice trying to find out which one of them it was.
All in all, Tantric Zoo is a very well written, different and entertaining book that I enjoyed. If you like mystery, you might like this book!

Teaser Tuesday

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:

  • Grab your current read
  • Open to a random page
  • Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
  • BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
  • Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

This week I'm reading:

The Vincent Boys - Abbi Glines

"He was the only family I truly loved. When he excelled I silently cheered him on. He’d stood by me through a rough childhood begging his parents to let me stay over nights when I was too scared to go back to a dark empty trailer. He’d always had everything I didn’t have. The perfect parents, home, life but none of that had mattered because I had Ashton. Sure, we all three were friends but Ash had been mine. She’d been my partner in crime, the one person I told all my dreams and fears to, my soul mate. Then just like everything else in Sawyer’s perfect life he got my girl. The only thing I’d thought I could call mine had become his."

"There were a million things I wanted to say. But saying any of them would be a bad move. Keeping Nicole’s mouth shut was more important.
“She’s Sawyer’s girl.”

Team Smackdown

Hello! Hello!

It's time for the thirdTeam Smackdown! Are you ready?

This week's Smackdown is:

Team Damon vs Team Stefan (Vampire Diaries)

Damon is being defended by Pepca @ Beyond Strange New Words

Team Damon - Vampire Diaries Series

Name: Damon Salvatore
Species: vampire
Birthday: late fifteenth century
Birth place: Florence, Italy
Year turned: late fifteenth century
Turned by: Katherine Von Schwartzchild

Physical Stats
Height: not very tall, but not small either
Build: slim, but muscular
Hair: fine straight black hair
Eyes: pitch black
“…as if darkness itself had come to life […], remarkably good-looking […], a sculptor’s dream…”

There is only one Damon. Dark. Handsome. Dangerous. Mysterious. With a dazzling smile. And his eyes, oh, those burning black eyes with stars inside which one could fall into.

He has his faults, too. He is menacing, arrogant and provocative; he mocks Stefan and makes his life miserable. But if you give him a chance, you see all of it is a façade behind which he is trying to hide how vulnerable he is. He pretends not to care, because he is afraid of being disappointed. However, he changes and grows, and reveals the wounded Damon behind the mask, the lonely Damon who only longs to be accepted and loved.

Damon always keeps his word. He is not a liar. He does not cover up for himself. Those kinds of things are beneath him; therefore, he tells the truth and takes responsibility for his actions. He has a sense of justice and redeems himself by trying to rectify the wrongs done even if they are not his fault.

Damon is a protector. He always looks after Stefan. He is loyal, he cares for his friends and helps them. He does not let anyone who hurts his loved ones get away with it. He risks everything for the people he cares about, including his health and life.

Damon is the one who understands Elena best. He sees past her appearance and notices her strength. He recognizes how different she feels from other people, how she is searching for something to be a part of, for somewhere to really belong. Damon pushes Elena to face the truth about herself, he makes her realize her potential and her desires, and he supports her at what she wants. He gives Elena credit for knowing her own mind, and he does not try to influence her decisions. He encourages her to make her own choices, and he respects them. Damon is always on Elena’s side.

He is gentle and loving. He is compassionate, and he hurts when his loved ones are in pain. He is also charming, graceful, courteous, and funny. He never ceases to surprise. In the end, Damon is simply just so … Damon. This is why I love him. This is why I am always on his team.

Quotes:

“But before she could grasp it, he did something extraordinary. He caught her reaching hand, not roughly but gently, and held it in his cool slender fingers. Then he turned her hand over, bent his dark head, and kissed her palm.” (The Awakening and The Struggle, Elena and Damon, p. 137)

“I can waken things inside you that have been sleeping all your life.” (The Awakening and The Struggle, Damon, p. 205-6)

“Damon’s voice was no louder than before. ‘Get away from my brother.’  Bonnie could feel it inside him, a swell of Power like a tsunami.  He continued, so softly that Bonnie had to strain to hear him, ‘Before I tear your heart out.’” (The Fury and Dark Reunion, Damon and Klaus, p. 385)

“‘I’m yours to do what you please with,’ he said in the same stunned voice. ‘You can order me to die right now. After all my clever talk, it turns out that I’m the monster.’ And then he wept.” (Nightfall, Damon and Elena, p. 401)

“He was so gentle, but almost fierce in his love for her. He had vowed not to kill, but he would kill to save her. She was his most precious thing in all the world...Any sacrifice would be worth it if she were safe and free. His life meant nothing without her, so he would gladly give it, laughing and kissing his hand to her with his last breath […] ‘I don’t belong anywhere’, Damon pointed out, suddenly sounding sad.  ‘You know I’ll always be with you.’” (Shadow Souls, p. 110-12)

“‘You forgot all about me. You were holding me, but you completely forgot my existence...
‘If only,’ he thought bitterly. ‘You’re branded on my soul.’” (Midnight, Elena and Damon, p. 26)

Review - Birthright by Nora Roberts

I wrote this review a while ago for another blog. I hope you enjoy it.

Title and Author: Birthright by Nora Roberts
    Publisher: Jove
    Publication Date: March 30th, 2004
    Paperback/Hardcover: 502Pages
    Genre: Contemporary Romance

    Summary:
On a hot July afternoon, a worker at an Antietam Creek construction site drives the blade of his backhoe into a layer of soil — and strikes a 5,000-year-old human skull. The discovery draws plenty of attention and a lot of controversy. It also changes the life of one woman in ways she never expected...
As an archaeologist, Callie Dunbrook knows a lot about the past. But her own past is about to be called into question. Recruited for her expertise on the Antietam Creek dig, she encounters danger — as a cloud of death and misfortune hangs over the project, and rumors fly that the site is cursed. She finds a passion that feels equally dangerous, as she joins forces in her work with her irritating, but irresistible, ex-husband, Jake. And when a strange woman approaches her, claiming to know a secret about Callie’s privileged Boston childhood, some startling and unsettling questions are raised about her very identity.
Searching for answers, trying to rebuild, Callie finds that there are deceptions and sorrows that refuse to stay buried. And as she struggles to put the pieces back together, she discovers that the healing process comes with consequences — and that there are people who will do anything to make sure the truth is never revealed

    Review:
First of all, I have to confess I am a Nora Roberts fan and this book is one of my favorites by her. I know opinions about this book are not unanimous but I really enjoyed it for several reasons.
When a construction crew accidently finds buried bones when prepping a site for a new construction and those bones turn out to be thousands of years old, Callie Dunbrook, an archaeologist, is called to the site. The archeological find immediately draws the public attention and when Suzanne Cullen sees Callie on the TV she is sure Callie is her daughter, who was kidnapped at the mall 30 years earlier. When the two women meet Callie feels sorry for Suzanne but guarantees she wasn’t adopted. When she starts questioning her parents, though, her life is quickly thrown upside down. Nothing is exactly what it seems and there are many secrets and lies surrounding Callie’s life.
To complicate everything the other archeologist sent to help Callie turns out to be her ex-husband Jacob Graystone. After a blazing hot romance, their marriage collapsed but Callie knows she still has feelings for the man.
To top it all off, several people start to show up dead at the digging site and it’s quite clear someone is not happy with the discoveries Callie is making.
The whole archaeological aspect of the book was what first drew me in. For some reason I always found anything connected to archaeology fascinating and I think Nora Roberts did a great research job for this book. I really enjoyed being able to read about everything Callie and Jacob found and how they worked.
When it comes to the characters Callie is not your typical leading lady. She is a tomboy. She is very direct, she’s honest, sarcastic and, when she wants, she can be extremely bitchy. She’s a nice person, though. She just won’t let anyone walk all over her.
Jacob is Callie’s perfect match. He is the kind of person who gives it as good as he gets so he and Callie are constantly bumping heads. He’s a really nice and sweet guy, though.
The relationship between Callie and Jacob is extremely well written and develops nicely. The chemistry between them is almost palpable and, even though, they start out by circling each other, it is obvious they still have feelings for each other. They are a great couple and what Jacob reveals to Callie in the end of the book only proves that.
The secondary romance in this book – the one between Lana and Doug – was also very well developed a very sweet.
The mystery part of the plot is also very interesting. You’ll want to find out who is threatening Callie and why the person is so intent on not letting her find out about her past. There are a lot of twists, which I’m sure will please mystery fans.
All in all, I really enjoyed this book. I don’t think there’s anything I didn’t like. The romance between the main characters is fun and the mystery is exciting. The whole book is very well written and the characters seem real.
If you like Contemporary Romance and Mystery, I’d recommend this book.

    Rating:  Must Read (5 Stars)
