Bully in Cyberville

There are many obstacles in life that every person faces, some are good obstacles that morph into situations that make us stronger and serve as stepping stones as the path to our dreams, but some are devastating, malignant anchors that attach to us and drag us down to frightening, lonely depths.  Some we can overcome on our own, some we need help to free ourselves from the binds; bullies are perfect examples of cancerous restraints that require the proper remedies to heal.
Bullies are everywhere, in every age range and culture.  Unfortunately, with good changes and progress, bad tends to follow, lurking in the shadows until it can seep inside.  Technology is evidence of this.  Everyone has heard of cyberbullying; in many ways, I feel this type of bullying can be more lethal than traditional bullying, although both are absolutely unacceptable and damaging!  I would love to say that one day, the world will be bully free, but that’s just not realistic.  I can say, however, that there is less tolerance and many more resources available to help stop the bullying for you or a loved one than in the past.
There’s not a person who has not been touched by a bully at some point in his/her life, whether on school grounds, at home, or in the work place.  Traditional bullying has been around since people have.  The need to show superiority, power, and dominance over others to make them feel inferior is a huge part of a bully’s strategy to shift the balance of power.  I feel that it’s important to note that many bullies do not feel they are powerful or have healthy self-esteems, which can be the trigger for their bullying actions.  With traditional bullies, the intended target can at least get some reprieve when they are away from the bully; this isn’t the case with cyberbullying.
Cell phones, laptops, iPads, e-readers, iPods, (the list goes on) are part of our everyday life.  If you are like me, you would rather forget your purse than your cell phone!  Facebook, Twitter, and other social media sites are amazing ways to connect with new people and keep up with friends and family, but they are also avenues to destroy lives.  The old way of ‘just ignore it and it will go away’ simply isn’t true!  Slander, pictures, videos, and even false profiles/posts are used by bullies to torment the target.  People are usually braver when saying or doing something online than in person; this also holds true with upping the malicious comments/actions of a bully, and the reach is far more devastating!
Here are some terrifying statistics that I found at http://www.bullyingstatistics.org/content/bullying-and-suicide.html:
There are approximately 4,400 suicide deaths every year, per statistics from the CDC.
This next statistic scared the crap out of me thinking of my daughter: with every suicidal death for juveniles, there is a minimum of 100 attempts of suicide.
Yale University conducted research that showed that the consideration of suicide is anywhere from 2 to 9 times higher for victims of bullying.
Britain also conducted research that showed a minimum of half of juvenile suicides are related to being bullied.
ABC news found that every day approximately 160,000 students do not go to school because they are afraid of being bullied.
Here’s the good news, talking and educating about bullying truly does help in stopping your loved one from being a victim.  Just like with everything in life, there are constructive ways to handle the situation and ways that will further damage the bullying victim.  Here are a couple of websites that give wonderful information to stop/prevent bullies:

About the Author:
I am a new author and have recently discovered that I am now addicted to writing. My first novel, Saving Rain, was originally going to be a single novel, but it quickly turned into a trilogy. I fell in love with the characters and had to continue with the story. Saving Rain is a new adult contemporary romance meant for readers 18 and older.
I live in the mountains with my family, and I love to read, hike, and travel when I am not writing. I am a sucker for romance, especially a book with a strong alpha male who has a sensitive side. I also enjoy a good mystery and thrillers. My favorite author is James Patterson, he is an amazing writer.
With being a newbie, I am just learning all the ropes, but I'm loving the wild ride. I plan on writing for as long as my fingers have dexterity
