Review - Treasure Me by Chrsitine Nolfi

Title and Author: Treasure Me by Christine Nolfi

Publisher: Kindle Editions
Publication Date: April 221st, 2011
Paperback/Hardcover:
Genre: Contemporary Romance

Summary
Petty thief Birdie Kaminsky has arrived in Liberty, Ohio to steal a treasure hidden since the Civil War. She’s in possession of a charming clue passed down in her family for generations: Liberty safeguards the cherished heart.

The beautiful thief wants to go straight. She secretly admires the clue’s author, freedwoman Justice Postell, who rose above the horrors of slavery to build a new life in Ohio. According to family lore, Justice left South Carolina at the dawn of the Civil War. Heavy with child, she carried untold riches on her journey north. As Birdie searches for the treasure, she begins to believe a questionable part of the story: a tale of love between Justice and Lucas Postell, the French plantation owner who was Birdie’s ancestor.

If the stories are true, Justice bore a child with Lucas. Some of those black relatives might still live in town. Birdie can’t help but wonder if she’s found one—Liberty’s feisty matriarch, Theodora Hendricks, who packs a pistol and heartwarming stories about Justice. Birdie doesn’t know that an investigative reporter who has arrived in town will trip her up—as will her conscience when she begins to wonder if it’s possible to start a new life with stolen riches. Yet with each new clue she unearths, Birdie begins to discover a family history more precious than gems, a tradition of love richer than she could imagine.

Review:
Treasure Me is a book with an interesting premise that didn’t disappoint me. It took me a little while to get into the story but once I did, I really enjoyed it.
Birdie is a thief with a complicated past. She was raised by thieves and that life is all she knows and no matter how hard she tries she can’t seem to turn her life around. At least not until she moves to Liberty in search of a hidden treasure.
Hugh is a journalist that moves to Liberty so he can write a story and save his job.
Sparks immediately fly between Birdie and Hugh, especially when they are forced to share an apartment. While Hugh chases after a story, Birdie hunts for her treasure.
Both Birdie and Hugh are too complex characters. They are both stubborn and hard-hearted. Their lives are complicated and so are their feelings. In a way, they are perfect for each other and the attraction between them is more than obvious.
There are also several secondary characters who play important parts on the story.
I really liked the fact that Christine Nolfi created an interesting puzzle that’s not easy to put together. It kept me interested in the story.
I also liked the fact the author is very descriptive. She’s able to make you feel like you are part of the story.
All in all, this is an interesting book with a good plot and a hard to solve mystery. If you like this kind of story you should definitely give this book a try.

I have to be honest, the premise sounds pretty common to me... but if the story telling quality is very good, it could pull off a common premise into the realms of wonderful read... by your review, this book sounds like a wonderful read :)
