My Book Boyfriend

My Book Boyfriend is a weekly meme, hosted by Missie at The Unread Reader. It is a weekly meme where we talk about a literary crush including stats, a picture of what you imagine he looks like and some quotes from him that make you swoon.  If you are interested in participating please check out the My Book Boyfriend Introduction Page over at Missie's blog The Unread Reader.

This week my book boyfriend is:

Gabriel Merrick from Storm and Spark by Brigid Kemmerer

Stats

Status: Gabriel has a twin brother, an older brother and a younger brother. He's a Fire Elemental but he's not able to completely control it yet.

Age: 17

Height: Tall

Eyes: Blue

Hair: Dark Brown Hair

More info: Gabriel is a sports star and even though he can often come off as a jerk he can also be quite sweet and cute when he wants to. He's a smartass.

"A girl on the cheer squad had onceasked Gabriel if having a twin was like looking in a mirror all the time. He’d asked her if being a cheerleader was like being an idiot all the time—but really, it was a good question. He and Nick shared the same dark hair, the same blue eyes, the same few freckles across their cheekbones."

“Hey, little brother.” Gabriel came back through the door and flopped on the bed, drawing his legs up to sit against the wall. “Girls are more likely to stay if you don’t fight with them.”

“Ah ...yeah. Are you Nick or Gabriel?”
He stepped close, until she could smell thespearmint in his toothpaste. “Does it
matter?”
Her cheeks were burning. It was a lotharder to maintain independence and indifferencewhen a hot guy was standing half-naked in front of her. She gulped and grasped at the banister. “I was looking for Chris’s room—but, ah—you know, I’ll just see him tomorrow—”
“No way.” He grabbed her hand. “Come here.”
He dragged her around the corner. His fingers were warm on hers. She stared at the beige walls, at the neutral carpeting, anything but the guy attached to her arm.
He knocked on a door. “Hey, Chris. There’s a girl here for you.”
Something heavy hit the door. “Shut up, Gabriel. I’m busy.”
She stared at the doorknob, unsure whether to be dismayed or relieved. But at least she knew who had hold of her arm.
Gabriel knocked again. “Hurry. I’m not sure how much longer I can hold her.”
Angry footsteps, then the door flew open. Chris glanced from her to his brother and back. “Oh.”....
“See?” said Gabriel. “A real one. Breathing and everything.”

“Ignore them,” Layne murmured. Her hand softened, and she gave his forearm a gentle squeeze. “Just get out your notebook.”
Gabriel turned his head to look at her. His entire life was going to shit, but seeing her here was like finding a little glim-mer of light amid all the darkness. “Your hair is down.”
She blushed a little and moved to pull her hand back.
He caught her fingers, trapping them beneath his own. “It’s pretty.”
“Thanks,” she whispered.
And she left her hand there until Ms. Anderson started talking."

“Have you gone out with anyone since Mo and Dad died?”
Michael didn’t move, and Gabriel didn’t think he was going to answer. But he finally nodded. “Yeah,” he said, his voice low. “Once, when I was twenty-one. She said I had too much baggage.”
“What a bitch.”
Michael rolled his eyes. “Yeah, I’m a real catch. I’m shocked they’re not lined up at the door.”
Gabriel reached out and gave his ponytail a yank. “Maybe if you didn’t look like Charles Manson, they would be.”
“I do not look like Charles Manson.”
Gabriel gestured at the door. “Go tap-tap on your laptop and look him up. Dead ringer.”
Michael laughed. It was a good sound, one Gabriel couldn’t remember hearing since . . . forever.'

What do you think of Gabriel?  I think he's a great character!

  2. I haven't read Storm, but I have it on my Kindle. I did read the prequel novella, Elemental, and really liked the Merrick boys. Can't wait to read this and really get to know Gabriel. Thanks for sharing!
